Wonderful details on this glossy cabochon which measures about 18x13mm and is approximately 3mm thick. This pretty little high quality flatback cab came to us in its original packaging, from West Germany. TWO (2) cabs per set. (This size would make great earrings!) Please note that the poodle in photo three is not included in this sale.

A little poodle history...if you're interested. Although the poodle's country of origin is not known, AKC grants this honor to Germany. Poodles have been found depicted in base reliefs as far back as the first century.  Because of their high intelligence, trainability, and athletic abilites, poodles became popular in early French circuses. The name "Poodle" most likely came out of the German word "Pudel" which means "one who plays in water." Although many people still refer to them as "French Poodles"...the "French" part was dropped years ago.

What is certain is that this dog was a descendant of the now extinct French Water Dog, the Barbet, and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. AKC recognizes three official sizes: toy, miniature, and standard but all are judged by the same criteria. The "frou frou" haircut you see in today's show ring originated to protect specific parts of the dog's body (in the water). Most pet owners prefer the "puppy" or "teddy bear" clip.

Now you know a little more about poodles. :-)
